This section contains miscellaneous political or ethical issues that have had some light shown on them. Left, right, or in the middle...every persuasion will have its opportunity here. Again, there is no specific endorsement by these links appearing here. This is for informational purposes only. One may ask what this has to do with healing...well, as Steve Forbes in Forbes Magazine put it, "With all thy getting, get understanding," and through that, get rid of the pit in your stomach or the darkness in your thoughts.
At this writing (8/23/2003), the webmaster truly believes that the polarized political forces are trying to seek common ground...at least the more mature individuals within those groups are trying. This is encouraging, as there are bits and pieces of every platform that have significant merit. It is when one is coerced or forced to digest that whole platform that trouble begins.
By all means, we should avoid putting the political compass on every issue that arises. It immediately clogs the works with endless discussion and little forward movement. No one can deny that the burden of regulation interpretation and enforcement and the overall intrusiveness and cost of government is out of control, yet there are those that continue to cling to the myth that government can solve the problem, when in fact, it has become the problem.
During a town hall meeting, today, a Democratic congressional member assailed the current administration's tax cut. He repeated the Republican mantra or justification that if there is less money available, less will be spent...AND it seems to be working...as related to affecting his pet programs. Hmmm... Perhaps the old adages apply...It is not what you say, but how you say it...It is not what you do, but how you do it.
